How did you become a member of CrossFit Themis?
I became a Themis member because of my amazing wife Amanda. I had just lost my father and I was losing direction. Amanda suggested that I try CrossFit to power through what I was dealing with. I agreed to walk into Themis and sign up for the basic class. We walked in to sign up together as a family and we were instantly hooked. Amazing people that took us in as family immediately. I became a member of Themis because I decided it was time to become healthy for me and my family.
What is something you can do now that you couldn’t do when you started?
When I first started, I felt I had trouble with everything. Everything felt awkward and strange and I was not in as good of shape that I thought I was. I could get through the WOD’s but it was not at a level that made me proud. I became part of a motivational group of athletes that pushed me, and continue to push me to becoming the best version of me. I would say that the biggest thing that I can do now that I couldn’t do then is to push myself to be better. I believe this comes from being surrounded by people that push themselves to be better versions of themselves as well.
What is one skill you hope to learn or get better at in the next six months?
Without question, I want to be able to string together several butterfly pull-ups. Its been incredibly difficult for me to get it together on those but I am trying.
Do you have any advice for someone who is thinking of starting CrossFit but may have some reservations?
My advice to any potential member is this…DO IT!! Take that step. CrossFit is not easy nor should it be. We are all there to make our versions of ourselves better. We must do the work to get the results we are after. Walking in the door for the first time is the most difficult thing I have ever done. I did it and I love everything about it and so can you!!
